Art Exhibit Extra Credit
I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’m not a particular fan of modern contemporary art. I personally do not think that splashes of paint or crooked drawn lines on a canvas express anything other than a talent for scheming society into paying thousands of dollars for something a toddler could draw. That being said, it was quite a quirky experience.
We walked in and it was a bunch of old people. It smelled musky (very weird yet distinct) and the people were all dressed very vintage.

It was a small room will several paintings all of which I thought were pointless because they were variations of lines on the canvases.

I was more intrigued when I went to the back room. In this room there were more interesting pieces that had stories behind them.
For example:
This piece was made by an artist who was undergoing cancer treatment. His painting demonstrates the way in which both the cancer and the treatment slowly kills the body.
This piece was said to have been painted by a female who received nude photos from one of her male cowrokers. Frsutrated by the fact that he was being inapproporiate with her and other colleges of hers, she painted his face on a naked female body to embarrass him.
I appologize for the poor quality of this photo. However, this is supposed to be the painting of a drunk who once passed out in the doorway of a Chinese restaurant. Apparently the restaurant belonged to people in the Chinese mafia who’s son found this man lying in a pool of his own vomit.
This one is “The Book of Life” which Netflix is now making into a show. It’s a painting of a late art dealer.
This piece (featuring my reflection) is called “Reruns.” Apparently the poeple who lived above this woman’s store had a leak that flooded her store so he painted this for her.
Please enjoy these last two miscellanius photographs:
Although I didn’t particularly like any of the paintings, this excursion was a good opportunity to do something cultural and off campus. After the exhibit we wandered the alley and popped into other exhibitions where there were pieces that protruded off the canvas and others where people were partying. I got to visit Chinatown and spend some quality time with my fellow WBB mates who I don’t spend enough time with.
OH and P.S. we got to meet Professor Hansen's friends who was super cool.
